Let's get right into celebrating National White Chocolate Day!

Why is this a holiday?

Well, can you actually count the number of people you know who love chocolate? I know I'd probably have to spend all day to accomplish that task but the type of chocolate most people fall in love with is milk chocolate. BUT there are quite a few people that love creamy, white chocolate and actually prefer it over milk chocolate.... I am one of those people! It tastes a little different but it's just as satisfying and I'm sure you know not to get in between someone and their chocolate! So don't question it; just let them celebrate!

But what is so different about white chocolate? Well, for starters it's white! But another distinction is that it doesn't contain cocoa solids, which by definition means it's not really chocolate. But hey, it's still got milk solids, cocoa butter, sugar, and some salt so I'd say it's close enough! The only problem is, since it doesn't contain the cocoa solids, it doesn't have the antioxidant properties that normal chocolate does. Ah well, you win some and you lose some!

But in order for something to be considered white chocolate in the United States it has to be at least 20% cocoa butter, about 14% milk solids and 3.5% milk fat. You can't have more than 55% of a sweetener like sugar in your mix or it's not white chocolate! So get your mix right or you won't be celebrating properly today.

So, how can you celebrate today?

Well, head to a candy store or the candy aisle in your local grocery store, of course! I know... I know... It's going to be hard to decide what to get but hey, you can get as much white chocolate as you want today! Don't hold back on your celebration and aim to try some new treats. There really are a ton of different things out there that contain white chocolate, which makes this world a beautiful place!

But if you want to get a bit stylish you can get some white chocolate chips to melt down into different shapes. There are lots of different candy molds you can get and you can even make some white chocolate lollipops. But hey, don't be afraid to sprinkle some other delicious treats like chopped up toffee into the mix!

And if you're really feeling creative then why don't you brainstorm some ideas for a while and come up with some unique, white chocolate-covered treats? You can coat basic things like pretzels with white chocolate if you want but I think you're more creative than that! What if you coated a banana in white chocolate and then put it in a banana split? Now that's what I'm talking about!
