Search Engine Marketers Manual 2 - Three Email Marketing Campaign Strategies to Improve Your Sales
69If you want to get continual sales from repeat customers then you need to have a successful email marketing campaign.
When you provide your customers with valuable information for free you will convince your readers that what you’re selling is even MORE valuable.
By following the email marketing strategy I’ve laid out for you, you can count on increased sales from happy customers.
Your Content
To start, you’re going to need some kind of email marketing campaign software, like iContact – which I use, in order to track and automatically send out your messages to your email list. This software will make things SO much easier because you write an email once and it’s sent out automatically to your list whenever you want it to be. But let’s get into the kind of content you’ll be providing your readers.
One of the most common and most successful types of email marketing campaigns is an e-newsletter. What you aim to do is provide all of your readers with content that they will find very valuable, so you need to narrow down the niche you want to target. You can provide them with tips, articles or even product reviews.
And in every email you want to have a “soft” sell sales pitch for some type of product or service that relates to the content. Don’t come off like you’re selling something right away. Make the content what the email is all about and the product or service just compliments the content and adds more value to the reader. Then you want to have a “call to action” where you tell the reader to visit a site for more information or to buy the product or service. But in order for this to work, you need to be directing traffic to a certain type of website.
Your Website
You can have a website packed with content and products but when you advertise you want to direct people to what is called a “squeeze page”. This page will have only one purpose and that is to get your visitors to sign up to your newsletter. So you need to design a short page that hypes up your newsletter and maybe even gives them something in exchange for signing up.
You could offer them a free report, free quote, a discount or anything that a visitor in your niche would find valuable enough to give you their name and email address. You could even just talk up your newsletter enough that they realize how much valuable information they’re missing out on.
You’ll have a form on the page that they can fill out and then they’re automatically added to your newsletter autoresponder list and they get their freebie.
Now, if this person only visited your site once, you have the ability to contact them over and over again because they gave you permission. Otherwise they’d look at your site once and maybe never come back. So you can see why you want to direct people to this page first; you want to be able to market to them more than once. But if you want your readers to respond to your emails then you have to talk to them a certain way.
Email Etiquette
You want to ensure that you’re always clear about what and how your reader can gain from your email. Get straight to the point. You need to entice your readers to first open your email, so be sure to mention the value in the email’s subject so that they know what to expect once they open it. Make it too tempting not to open.
Catch their attention and hook them in within the first line or two of your email. This is where they’ll decide if they want to continue reading or not. Then you want to support your hook with a short and concise email body. Make sure that the text is easy on the eye and that important parts stand out by using bold text and bulleted lists.
Use an active voice that involves your readers and address them by their name. Your email marketing campaign software should have a code you can put in your emails to automatically show the reader’s first name when they read it. This is VERY handy because it makes them feel like you’re really talking to them. And once again, you want to have a call to action telling them what to do so that they know how to get the products and services you’re offering. You now know how the pros set up their email marketing campaigns.
This is a proven system for achieving many sales through email marketing, in fact you’re probably on one of these newsletters yourself. When you focus on getting opt-ins to your newsletter and provide valuable content that’s too tempting to ignore then you have built a successful business for yourself. You can now expect an explosion of sales all thanks to your email marketing campaign software that you have on autopilot.
