Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer Review
72Being unhealthy and overweight is such a common issue these days that you have to wonder what’s causing it.
The main culprit may be our diets but another big problem is that, on average, we’re not active enough.
Most people don’t want to be more active unless there’s an easy and quite possibly fun way to do it, which is what I’m about to show you.
First, let me show you the easiest way to be more active.
Don't worry, it's something you already do you just need to be doing more of it.
Walking
Yes, just by walking a little more than you normally do you’re going to boost your health.
We’ve become so lazy that it’s hard to get us up out of our comfortable chairs with wheels. Some people roll around the room instead of just standing up! I know I have before; it’s kind of fun.
But walking isn’t hard; you learned how to do it when you were a baby!
Look at all the opportunities where you AVOID walking:
- Elevators
- Escalators
- Driving short distances
- Parking as close to a store as possible
- Having food delivered
- Using a drive-through
As you go through your day, try to realize what you’re doing. Make a mental note whenever you’re avoiding walking and try to change that behavior.
Take the stairs, your body will appreciate it.
Take short walks instead of driving, your body AND your wallet will appreciate it.
Park a little farther from the store, go out to eat or cook your own food and avoid places that have a drive-through. If the place you’re going to has a drive-through then you most likely don’t want to be going there. They have it because they realize that most of their customers are too lazy to walk inside. Don’t let them stereotype you!
If walking isn’t challenging enough for you then jog.
If jogging isn’t challenging enough for you then run.
If running isn’t challenging enough for you then sprint.
Alright so we’ve gotten the easy part figured out in the equation of activity, now how can we make it fun?
Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer
Have you ever heard of a pedometer?
A pedometer is a small device that will count how many steps you take. It can be a lot of fun to see how many steps you take in a day. Then you can try to “out step” yourself the next day or try to out step your friends.
Wear one as a self experiment or as a means of tracking your progress.
The Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer is probably one of the best pedometers you’ll come across. In fact, it was rated #1 by Consumer Reports.
It has very accurate dual sensors so that it’ll count your steps whether you have it clipped to your waist, in your pocket or in your bag. This is a big benefit if you don’t want it to be visible.
How does it count your steps?
The pedometer senses the vibrations of your body movements. If you’re walking or running it sends a noticeable vibration each time your foot hits the ground.
The Omron HJ-112 can take that a step further whenever you enter your stride length; the average distance you travel with each step.
- You walk 10 steps and measure how many inches you’ve walked from start to finish.
- Then you divide that number by 10 and you have your average stride length.
- Enter that into the pedometer and it’ll now tell you how far you’ve walked.
Knowing how many steps you took in a day might not be that appealing to you but now you know how far you’ve walked. It’s easier to relate to a distance traveled.
Want more information?
Enter in your weight and it’ll give you an estimate of how many calories you burned.
Now you have a variety of different ways to compete against yourself or your friends. It will even count your steps during an aerobics class!
Omron makes things even easier for you because it’ll store all the information from the past 7 days. That way you can go back and compare your results to quickly see if you’re improving. Set the clock on it and it’ll automatically reset itself at midnight for you. Talk about easy!
This little device can be very handy for people who are walking or running as part of their exercise program. Sometimes you can’t find a place to run that has the distance marked off for you. How can you notice any progress when you can’t tell how far you’ve gone, right?
Well, pop an Omron HJ-112 on your hip or in your pocket and your problem’s solved!
The HJ-112 Pedometer is a durable and handy little device. Get one for yourself, you might be surprised how fun it is to try to out step yourself day by day!
