October 18th is National Chocolate Cupcake Day

If you're looking for something to do today then hold out your hand because it's National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

I know some of you have been waiting for a day like this!

So let's get right into celebrating National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

Why is this a holiday?

Well, you already know that people love eating cake but when you make it into a portable cupcake it's just that much easier to eat! But think about all the times you've seen people with cupcakes... they are usually either a plain old white cupcake or a chocolate one. And to be honest, even though I don't really like chocolate that much, I have to say that most people will probably go for a chocolate cupcake over a white one. They just have more flavor and with enough people loving on these cakes a holiday is bound to be formed!

And can you guess how long people have been making cupcakes? Well, it appears that the first written proof of cupcakes comes from a 1796 book called American Cookery by Amelia Simms. They were referred to as "a cake to be baked in small cups" at that time. But if you hop forward to 1828, you'll start seeing the literal term "cupcake" pop up in a book called Seventy-five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats. Now this shouldn't be confused with a cup cake, which just means that you make a cake and use a cup to measure everything instead of weighing out your ingredients.

But I think most of us know what a cupcake looks like, right? It's pretty much a sweet muffin that is almost always topped with some kind of frosting. And that's where the fun comes in because you can whip up any kind of frosting your heart desires! But if you're a real chocolate addict, you'll probably go with chocolate on chocolate.

Bring on the sugar high!

So, how can you celebrate today?

Well, your best bet is to head to a bakery! And if you're lucky enough, you might even have a bakery that specializes in cupcakes. But if you just want one and you don't want to make it yourself, then heading to a bakery is a no-brainer. They're going to have SO many different types of cupcakes for you to choose from and you can grab one on the go and have a little celebration in your mouth.

But I know a lot of you are going to want more than one chocolate cupcake... am I right? And some of you might have kids or roommates that want to celebrate with you, so why not bake your own? All it takes is a chocolate cake mix and some frosting and you're set! Just make sure you have a muffin pan or things might get a little tricky.

But how many of you like to get creative with these holidays? Well then, mix up your own cake mix with different chocolaty ingredients. I mean you can go with cocoa powder, milk chocolate, chocolate milk, dark chocolate, white chocolate or any other combination of ingredients. Heck, toss some peanut butter into the mix! And then comes the frosting which can include all kinds of extracts, powders and other delicious things. You could have a peanut butter and chocolate cupcake with strawberry frosting if you want!
