October 16th is Let Them Eat Cake Day
63If you're looking for something to do today then guess what? It's Let Them Eat Cake Day!
Go on... you're allowed!
Let's get right into celebrating Let Them Eat Cake Day!
Why is this a holiday?
Well, "let them eat cake" is a common phrase that is often attributed to Queen Marie Antoinette, but there's no proof that she actually said it. Even still, the story goes that a princess learned that the peasants had no bread so she uttered that phrase. The date itself has a little significance if you stick with Marie Antoinette, because this is the day she was executed in 1793. So even if she didn't say it, the phrase shall be repeated every year on the day of her passing. Perhaps she was just passing the cake?
But I'm not even sure if this holiday has anything to do with the origins of this phrase or Marie Antoinette, so let's look at it a different way. How many people do you know that can honestly say that they hate all kinds of cake? There's probably not very many, but people are often told that they shouldn't eat too much cake. And if you're a kid, you're often told "No" when you ask for cake. So perhaps today is just a random day where we're all allowed to have our cake and eat it too.
There are regular cakes with frosting, cupcakes, ice cream cakes, cheesecakes, pancakes, pound cakes, coffee cakes and many other cakes to choose from. So you can see why it's hard to get people to hate on cakes in general, right? But even though cakes aren't really something you should eat every day, it's not going to hurt if you go a little overboard on cake one day out of the year!
So dig in!
How to Celebrate
So, how can you celebrate today?
Well, you can easily go to just about any bakery or restaurant and get some cake that was freshly made just for you. Who wants to be stuck in the kitchen on a holiday, right? So just order up a slice, or a whole cake, of any kind of cake you want, relax and enjoy the celebration.
But I know a lot of you will want to make your own today. It will probably be cheaper, healthier and you can modify it anyway you want. So find a recipe for your favorite kind of cake or ask your friends and family what they like. You might be able to combine a couple cake ideas into one! How's that for creativity?
But hey, you're allowed to go overboard today... so you do realize what that means, right? You can eat every single kind of cake you can think of today! Have a dessert with every meal if you want and enjoy this day. Savor every bite, remember this day and look forward to it every year. Because today is the day that no one can tell you to put down that fork. Make this your biggest "cheat" day of the year and always remember that you don't have to give up eating cake.
Have a great day and enjoy every last bite!

How are YOU going to Celebrate Let Them Eat Cake Day?Loading...
I started reading this hub and had one of those "weird" moments. On my drive home this morning, something had triggered a fleeting thought of Lady Marie Antoinette, and her "Let them eat cake" phrase, lol. And, this evening, I find you've written a hub featuring the phrase, lol. Gives me the heebie-jeebies, Bendo, lol!
But, very cool hub, and before I knew it was one of those, "it's ok to cheat" holidays, I'd already cheated with cinnamon pancakes for breakfast, lol. I didn't go overboard with the cheat, BUT, it was sooooo worth it!
Very cool hub - I enjoyed the read!
my favourite is chocolate cake. I'm also a big fan of lemon cake with cream cheese icing.
Trying to lose weight and your not helping with all these eating holidays. Oh well, what's one treat per holiday gonna hurt? Excluding the chocolate covered insects, thank you very much.
Hi, this is an interesting hub. In fact, I'm grateful to you sharing it. Now I don't feel guilty at least on this day of the year. :-)
okay culinary master... This is so ironic, yesterday I was writing about a true event centering around cake. These hubs have given me a new way to celebrate each day, plus weird out my neighbors on occasion. Remember Punch day...
Can't think of a much better occasion or a better way to celebrate Marie Antoinette - except maybe to inaugurate a 'let them eat cake month.' Just make sure it's stuffed full of cream.
I didnn't have time to comment on the day I read this hub and I must tell you I not only had cake but my mom, sister and I had dinner together and ended it with cake. What fun! Keep it coming Ben. Smile!

Now this is a holiday I can really get behind. I myself did not have cake, but I baked some pumpkin muffins earlier and that seems close enough. Happy Let Them Eat Cake Day to you!
