November 6th is National Nachos Day
55If you're looking for something to do today then I hope you have some chips on hand because it's National Nachos Day!
Break out that beautiful cheese!
And let's get right into celebrating National Nachos Day!
Why is this a holiday?
Because people love eating chips, but when you're talking about nachos... that's pretty much a whole meal! You've got your chips, cheese and whatever else you want to put on there. And you don't need silverware; you've got chips! And did you ever notice how long nachos seem to last, especially if you've got the grande? Can you see why so many people love them? Can you see why they'd want to celebrate them today? I thought you might understand!
But you can thank Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya for this wonderful invention... He was working in the Victory Club in 1943 when he came up with a dish called Nachos Especiales. And it was fried corn tortillas chips, pickled jalapeno peppers and of course some melted cheddar cheese. Now, most people might do without the jalapenos but almost all nachos include melted cheese and tortilla chips.
But what else can you put on nachos? Well, you can hit up the beans! Black beans, refried beans or pinto beans will do the trick. But what if you want some meat? Well, go with some chicken or beef then! And if you're down with the veggies then go ahead and add in some lettuce, onions, salsa or tomatoes. And if you're going to put all of that on there then you might as well hit it up with some more cheese and top it with some sour cream!
Now that's a meal!
How to Celebrate
So, how can you celebrate today?
Well, do you have nacho supplies at home? I mean, all you really need are tortilla chips and cheese. Heck, you could use Doritos if you wanted to! But I'm sure you've got some kind of meat, beans or vegetables you could add in there too. Don't skimp on your nachos; it's a celebration!
But, if you don't have the supplies on hand, you have two basic options. The first option is to go out to eat with friends, family or your significant other at a restaurant that serves Mexican food. Actually, a lot of restaurants that don't really serve Mexican food probably have nachos on the menu too. And what I'd do is order a nachos grande and then everyone can eat it as an appetizer. That way you all get to celebrate and then you can get on down with whatever other food you want to jam in your mouth!
But the other option is to head to the store and get some nacho supplies, so you can make them at home. You can go with your basic tortilla chips or you can get flavored tortilla chips. In fact, you could get some corn tortillas and then fry them up yourself. Then you have to decide if you want to melt down your own cheese or just go with the nachos cheese that always seems to be in that lovely liquid form. But then you get to go crazy and add in any type of ingredient you want. Like, what if you put some shredded hot wings in there? That might be good!
Have a great day and don't forget to use your napkin!

Wow, nachos! I really want to try it here in the Philippines. Although, when we're at Veracruz in Mexico way back 2005 (as sailor), our Mexican friends treated us with nachos, too.
Grab the Maalox and let us get down to nacho business. My wife makes the best nachos in the Philippines, or anywhere else for that matter. You hear that travel_man?
Sweet day this is for I had forgotten about nachos, and what a great meal this is. My favorite is BBQ chicken nachos, these are pretty fricken good, I make the bbq sauce with habanero chilies.
I love Natchos so much there are days when I crave them. I try to always have a bag on my shelves. I make loaded Natchos and even a healthy veggie version with light cheese on them. Yeah, Natchos are up their on the top five of my favorite foods. Smile!

I love to eat nachos with cheese and refried beans and sour cream. I don't mind veggies added, but I can't stand olives. No olives on my nachos. I love eating them with only cheese
