If you're looking for something to do today then I hope you're hungry because it's National Fast Food Day!

It will be pretty easy to fit this celebration into your schedule!

So, let's get right into celebrating National Fast Food Day!

Why is this a holiday?

Do you not realize how big the fast food industry is? You might hate the industry, or you might love it, but either way they are helping people get food in their face, very quickly. Tons of people go to fast food restaurants every single day because they don't have the time to cook for themselves, or they're out on the road and want to keep on driving. It may not be the healthiest choice but it's a convenience that many benefit from, and it's no wonder that people want to celebrate these speedy restaurants.

The term "fast food" has been used since the 1950's and, of course, refers to food that can be made and served up pretty dang fast. And if you're curious how big this industry is, then just walk out on the main street of your city and count how many fast food restaurants you see. There will probably be signs for McDonald's, Wendy's, KFC, Taco Bell, Burger King, Arby's and many more giant signs trying to coax you into their restaurants.

The ingredients and food choices are slightly getting healthier, but there will always be greasy and sugary meals you can have on your plate in minutes. Believe it or not, getting food into your mouth can be a chore for some people, and they want the feeding process to be as easy as possible. So the fast food industry has swooped in and given the people what they want; it's all about your convenience! You want to be able to quickly get whatever type of food you want, for a low price and be able to eat it anywhere you want... whether it's in the restaurant, in your car, at a park or even back at your home or work.

Do you think they're doing a good job?

How to Celebrate

So, how can you celebrate today?

Well, I think you know... go put some pants on, grab your keys and head to your favorite fast food restaurant. If you're on a diet, who cares; today is a cheat day! So treat yourself to whatever you want. Get some of your favorite food or try something new they have on the menu. Explore the world of swift culinary treats, and don't forget to get some napkins.

But if you're a brave soul, then you can eat fast food for every meal today. Go to the place you think has the best breakfast food and dig on into it! And while you're eating your delicious breakfast, you can plan out which restaurants you're going to hit up for lunch and dinner. You could hit up a burger joint or get some pizza with wings... it's all up to you!

But if you want to have some fun with this holiday then why don't you call up a few friends first? Once you're all together, tell them that you want to play a little game to see who has the best taste buds. You will each get to choose a type of food and then the others will go order it from places and bring it back to you. Then you are blindfolded and fed each thing, as you try to guess which restaurant it's from. So you could say that you want to guess which hamburger is which or which French fries are which. You could even guess where tacos came from or who fried your chicken. Either way, you're going to end up with a full stomach!

Have a great day and be prepared to work off all those extra calories tomorrow!

How are YOU going to Celebrate National Fast Food Day?

I'm not a fan of fast food as main meals. I do eat it occasionally, but usually only when there is no food in the house and I don't have time to shop. I eat fast food dessert (like Dairy Queen) more often.

We all do it, from one time to another. In fact when I traveled the US west coast I made it a point to eat at every burger joint that was locally owned. Pretty fricken good in my book.

This is good information here. It is always important to remind readers to put on some pants before heading to the fast food restaurant. I ate at Panera last night. Does that count for fast food?

Yeah FloraBreenRobison, DQ's not too shabby!

Nice, jenubouka! Local joints are usually not afraid to load you up with some giant burgers either!

Haha yes Jeannieinabottle, otherwise they won't get served ;)... but Wiki is saying Panera is "quick casual" so it seems like that's in between fast food and sit-down restaurants; I'd still count it!

Darn, I missed it! I might have to celebrate belatedly. I do live in the fast food capital in the world!
