Link Building Best Practices - A Guide to Effective Permanent One Way Links
68If you want a constant flow of targeted traffic coming to your site then you need to get permanent one way links pointing to your website.
When you get links from the right kinds of sites and are the first one to write about a certain topic then the traffic will keep coming.
By the end of this article you’ll have a simple, yet very effective link building strategy that will get your site in front of many different people.
The Quickest Ways to Get Links
First you need to know the basics on link building. If you’re posting the link yourself then you’ll want to open up a text document and type in the following:
- Your URL
- Your Title
- A short description
- Keywords
You want to take some time with your title because a lot of the time it will be your anchor text. Your anchor text is the text that is highlighted as a link. When you think about it in real world terms, if you have 10 people pointing at you saying, “Turtle!” chances are… you’re a turtle! And that’s exactly how search engines treat anchor text. So pick out a keyword that REALLY relates to the page you’re linking and put it in your anchor text. That way when you post your link it’ll tell the search engines that they should rank you higher for that keyword because that’s what your site is all about. So type that up and get it ready so you can quickly get some links.
First you’ll want to go to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Mixx and Reddit. There are a TON of people that come to these sites every single day whether they’re bored or looking for news. When you post a link on here and someone likes it they can give it a thumbs up or comment on it and boost the ranking of your link. The more people that like your link the more people will want to check it out themselves. This can make your site a viral hit very quickly!
Then you’ll want to go out and find some blogs that directly relate to your field, you may even already follow a bunch of blogs. What you’ll want to do is read a blog post that relates to your link and then leave a thoughtful comment. You want to show that you actually read the post and then add some kind of value by giving a tip of your own. And then there’s usually a place for you to put your URL which will most of the time hyperlink your name when you post your comment. This isn’t the best anchor text BUT blogs show up in search engines very quickly and the site you just commented on might be very highly ranked in the search engines. If you get a bunch of links from a lot of high ranked sites (the cool kids) then the search engines will think you’re a cool kid too and rank you even higher. Don’t abuse this method though and spam people because your comment will get deleted!
And lastly you’ll want to use social media sites and “web 2.0” sites to post your links to. So you can go to sites like Twitter or Facebook and post your link to your page if you feel that your friends would love to check it out. This gives you an instant flow of traffic and if more people like it and comment it then their friends will see them talking about it too. Once again, you’re viral! You can also post in Facebook groups and pages to really get some targeted traffic. Or you can even have your own web 2.0 site like a blog! That way you can post content and link to your site on a continual basis and have no fear of your link ever being deleted. Search engines will quickly put your pages into the search results the more often you post. These are the 3 quickest ways to get permanent one way links to your site but let’s look at a tried and true method to get others to link to you.
You Need to Post Articles
I know, I know... you’ve probably heard it before! But there’s a reason why people keep repeating it; it really works. Here’s why it works. You write a well thought out article and focus on some good keywords and then post it to an article site like EzineArticles. When you post you have to fill out an author byline. This is the place that you write a little bit about yourself, what you do AND you post a link to your site.
Now, once it’s approved, you have one link pointing to your site from EzineArticles, which is good. This site is ranked high so that’s a good start. But here’s where the fun starts… If your article is really well written then a lot of people are going to want to check it out. If they like it they’ll rate it higher and higher which raises your chances of people reading it on EzineArticles. The higher your rank and the more views your article gets the more people are going to see and check out your link at the end of your article. This is awesome because you’re being rewarded for your good writing, but there’s more!
The whole reason for sites like EzineArticles is that they are a resource for others. Sure, your article will show up in the search engines and be read by everyday people but a lot of people come here to get content for their own sites. When someone wants to post your article on their site they are required to also include your byline which means a link for you on their site! The more people that use your article the more links you get to your site and you didn’t even ask them to link to you! Now do you see why people recommend this? But there is one last method that is going to ensure that you get a ton of links to your site without even trying.
Be the First to Write About It
Yes, it’s that simple... If you are the first person to write about an important topic then you are the only source for that information! So if someone reads what you wrote and they want to write about the same topic, 9 times out of 10 they’re going to link back to you as the source. And if it’s a huge topic you will get a ton of traffic!
Think about it this way, if you wrote about what everyone’s already heard of then you are going to blend in with all the other stories. BUT if you write about something that no one has heard then they’re going to want to tell someone about it. This doesn’t mean you make stuff up! You just need to keep your eyes open, research your field and get creative. Put out factual information but be yourself and give your own take on things and you might become some of the net’s biggest writers inside source.
So don’t be like everyone else and check and see what other people are writing about. That’s what SO many people do and you want to stand out! If you come across something important through your own research and don’t really see anyone writing about it then you need to post something and FAST! Write a really in-depth post that gives factual information, leaving nothing out, and you’ll win yourself a lot of links. Practice these techniques and you’ll become a linking guru.
These are tried and true methods for getting a TON of permanent one way links to your site without a lot of effort. When you get viral traffic, write articles and get the inside scoop then you’re on your way to more traffic than you know what to do with. You can now sit back and relax as the traffic comes pouring in.

Hi Bendo, you presented a well known fact in the most unique of ways making it seem fresh and new. I really enjoyed reading your hub, especially on the point you raised about article writing and submission. In most of the traffic generation tips I've recommended to people, I always place this technique ahead of the others. Thanks once more for doing justice to this topic, I'll love to have it as a link back to one of the articles I wrote that is similar. Thanks again!
U have done it again. I wake up every morning just to read your latest articles I'm already seeing improvement in my work thanks to u.
This is a great post man! I have been studying about SEO hard the past couple months and all of what you are saying is great information and everyone should listen to it if they want their sites to rank! Those stable, permanent one-way links to your sites are crucial in reaching the first page in Google! I honestly think that backlinks should be about 80% of your focus for SEO efforts, as they will do wonders for you rankings. Google considers incoming one-way links to your site the single most important factor in your site being important or being an authority! You should check out the hub I just wrote on getting your hub page up to first page in the SERP. It goes hand in hand with this hub! Great read as always, keep it up man!

It can be difficult to find niches that know one has written about but there is always new events and stories to be told. Thanks for the advice :)
Of course, if you can't find a niche, you can always try to create your own.
