If you're looking for something to do today then grab a glass of milk and get ready for some yum because it's Eat an Oreo Day!

Sure, you go ahead and try to eat only one!

Let's get right into celebrating Eat an Oreo Day!

Why is this a holiday?

Well, Oreos happen to be one of the most loved cookies around, that's why! So many people are munching on these things so of course they had to set up a holiday for them. I grew up on them, you probably grew up on them and we all probably enjoy at least one of their varieties of cookies. Now you have an excuse to sneak an Oreo into your day!

These amazing little cookies have been around since 1912 when Nabisco created them to compete with the British "biscuit" market, which was too "ordinary". Nabisco made two types of sandwich cookies: one with cream filling and one with lemon meringue.

But these early Oreos were mound shaped; they weren't the flat cookies with the complex little design on them that you're use to. The new design didn't come around until 1916 and eventually they realized that the cream filling sold better so they dropped the lemon meringue in the 1920s.

But if you look at the shelves in your grocery store now, you are sure to find more than just cream filled Oreos! You can get Golden Oreos, Double Stuffed Oreos, Oreo Fudge Cremes, Oreos with Chocolate Creme and so many other varieties! There are a ton of flavors to choose from and so many different ways to eat them. So your celebration isn't going to be limited at all, even if the name of the holiday seems to imply a limit. As if anyone will eat just one ;).

How to Celebrate

So, how can you celebrate today?

I don't really think you need my help on this one but I can still give you some ideas. Of course the first option is to head to your local grocery store and pick up some kind of Oreos. If I were you I'd be looking for some new variety that hasn't met my taste buds yet. Pick up a package or two, bring them home and get to celebrating! Just don't forget to share, since it only takes one Oreo for someone else to celebrate with you ;).

And really, no one says you can't eat the other kinds of Oreo treats out there like Oreo cones, ice creams, Cakesters, pie crusts and so on. Make today all about Oreos and try to get as many different varieties as you can. You could take one of those pie crusts, whip up a nice, cream pie filling and then press your own cookie crumbs into a top layer for the cake. And voila... you just made a pie that is literally a giant Oreo!

Or you can scan the internet for ideas on how you can use Oreos in different culinary treats. I've seen them inside of cookies; yes, a cookie in a cookie! I'm sure you could bake them into brownies too. You could even use them as a spoon as you eat soft serve ice cream. And it'd be pretty tasty if you crushed a bunch up and then sprinkled them on a freshly iced cake or cupcakes. Get creative with it!

Have a great day and enjoy your cookies... I mean, cookie! ;)

Personally, I find it wonderful that "Eat an Oreo" day is on Father's Day. Were my dad still around, we would have had an oreo or 30 together. :)

Instead of oreos on June 19th I had birthday cake. It seems every year on this day I have birthday cake, quite an odd coincidence.

That's so weird Phil! If I had that happen I would attempt to light it on fire and then change my mind and blow it out and then eat the cake. (Happy belated ;))

Haha niiice, your brain is quite an advanced celebrator!

Glad you enjoyed it, Sun-Girl!
