July 2nd is World UFO Day
62If you're looking for something to do today then look to the skies for your entertainment because it's World UFO Day!
Whether you believe in aliens or not doesn't matter; there are definitely unidentified flying objects out there!
Let's get right into celebrating World UFO Day!
Why is this a holiday?
Well, in the evening of July 2nd in 1947 a disc-shaped object was seen flying over Roswell, New Mexico. The next day a bunch of debris was found by Bill Brazel. That's right; this celebration marks the day of the infamous Roswell UFO incident! It's one of the most widely talked about UFO crashes so it's the perfect time to bring awareness back to these weird UFOs that are seen every year.
Brazel found what he described to a newspaper as a bunch of strips of rubber, tinfoil and some strong paper and sticks. He didn't really think anything of it but heard people talking about flying discs the next day. So someone went back to the ranch with him and collected a bunch of the stuff. And even though it was reported in a newspaper that the Army had the flying disc that crashed, the Air Force says it was from their top secret government experiment called Project Mogul. That experiment involved high altitude balloons with microphones on them that were supposed to detect sound waves from when the Soviets were testing atomic bombs.
But in reality, it was a UFO to many because they didn't know what it was. It didn't have to have aliens in it; it just had to be unidentified. So maybe it was just a big balloon, maybe it was a flying saucer... either way the event has stuck with us all in some way. So whether you believe the government or not doesn't matter, we're still seeing weird stuff in the skies today!
Look up; you might be missing something!
How to Celebrate
So, how can you celebrate today?
Well, if you're lucky enough to live near Roswell, New Mexico then maybe you should head on over and see if you can check out the crash site. Or just see how close you can get to Area 51 without being scared away. I'm sure there will be plenty of people in that area with stories to tell you as well as some photos and videos to share of what they saw. You might even want to stay until darkness falls to see if you see any weird lights in the sky.
Or you can stay at home and watch some documentaries on some of the weirdest UFOs events that have happened. It's interesting to see the contrast in stories when you talk to the eye witnesses and then you hear what the government says it was. Sometimes it's believable other times it doesn't seem like it could be what they're saying at all. But it's up to you to decide what you believe.
But if you want to have fun with today you could always dress up as an alien and fly around some sort of remote control device. Have it buzz around your area and laugh as people point and stare at it. Then have it land near you, look back at the crowd and then quickly run off. I'm sure you'll make everyone's day with that one! ;)
Have a great day and I hope you see something weird!

No, I looked it up. It's Bottomless Lake.
The whole town is interesting and this is just an added benefit to cool off after checking out all the great stores and museums. Even the stores have some things that are like a museum.

I went there last summer. It's a fun place to visit. Be sure and ask the locals where the lake is. It wasn't on any of the brochures or information we had and a lovely secret. Sorry, I don't recall it's name.
