How to Make Your Site One of the Most Visited Websites
90If you're wondering how you can increase the traffic to your site and become one of the most visited websites then you need to implement at least two of these methods.
I'm about to show you a free method and two paid methods that bring traffic to my sites each and every day.
By the end of this article you will be ready to open the flood gates and let the traffic pour in.
A Free Method for Traffic
First of all let's start out with something that you can do for free to bring in a good amount of traffic. What is the method? Well, it's simply posting online classified ads. The site I use is Craigslist and it's probably one of the best out there for this method. It gets a ton of traffic from people looking for things, it's free to post to (depending on the type of post) and it's broken down locally.
What you'll want to do is first find a category on Craigslist that really fits what your site has to offer. On a few of my sites, I give away free information that teaches people different things. So I usually post in the "lessons & tutoring" section under the "services offered" category. And once you figure out your category then you can start writing up a few different classified ads.
You want to write out at least 3 different ads that focus on different solutions you offer on your site to common problems people have. So if you have a fitness site, one ad could be about running, one could be about weight loss and one could be about building muscle. And at the end of each ad you want to tell them to go to your site for more information and then provide them with a link. You can then post 3 ads in your particular section a day, but if you only have 3 ads then you can only really post every other day. And if I were you, I wouldn't stick to just one area; I'd cycle through each and every location from the top down with each new ad. These ads usually stay up for about a month (some big cities and possibly certain sections only allow a week), so you'll end up with a ton of links all over their site for different locations.
How to Advertise on One of the Most Visited Websites
Now let's take a look at a method that does cost a little bit of money, but you'll be advertising on one of the most visited websites online today! Can you guess what site I'm talking about? That's right... Facebook! Everyone seems to be on this site and you want to tap into that flow of traffic. But you're going to do it through a Fan Page. So set up a Page for your website with a little information about your site along with a link to your site in the info. And be sure to use an eye-catching picture that really sums up your site.
Now what you'll want to do is get some "fans", which you can start out doing by telling some of your friends to "like" your page. But the real amount of fans are going to come from the ad you create. Facebook will even tell you on your Fan Page to create an ad. So what you'll want to do is pick out a few descriptive headlines, pictures and descriptions. You're going to have to test out ads two at a time so that you can split test them against each other to see which ad is going to get you more fans. So you'll start out with two identical ads, but only one aspect will be different, like the headline. You test two headlines, pick the winner and then test the winner against another headline until you've tested them all. When you find a good headline then you can move onto testing the pictures and so on.
And to really make this work you want to target your specific demographic. Who is your target market? You can really narrow it down with Facebook ads! You can target by gender, age, location, interests and so on. And another thing you'll want to do is select that you only want your ads visible to people who haven't already "liked" your Fan Page. It doesn't make sense to advertise to people who are already fans, right? Plus, when you're able to, you want to set it to only advertise to people who are friends of your fans. That way, when they see your ad, they'll see that a few of their friends also like what you're advertising, so they're more likely to check it out. And let's not forget that when someone "likes" your page ALL their friends see that they did that and they might click the like button too! FREE viral likes! Then all you need to do is post interesting things about your niche on your Fan Page wall from time to time and occassionally pop a link in there to your site.
Advanced Method for Traffic
And in closing, let's talk about an advanced method for getting traffic. It's advanced because there's a bit of a learning curve and if you do it wrong you could lose a lot of money. This method is called pay per click advertising; like Google Adwords. These are the little ads next to the search engine results that relate directly to what you just searched for. If you really want to learn the ins and outs of Adwords then I recommend you check out The Definitive Guide to Google Adwords by Perry Marshall.
But I'll give you the basics on what you want to do. First you need to find keywords that are "buyer keywords", which get a decent amount of monthly searches and have low competition. A buyer keyword just means that it's something someone would type into a search engine if they're getting ready to buy something. You want this type of person to see your ad because you might be marketing what they want to buy. So if you have a pet store then you want to bid on a keyword like "best dog leashes" instead of a keyword like "pictures of dogs". You can use tools like MSN's Online Commercial Intention tool to help you decide if it's a buyer keyword or not.
And you can use Google's Keyword Tool to see how many times people search with your particular keyword in a month. I'd aim for at least 1,000 searches a month so that there's a good chance of you getting traffic every single day. The keyword tool will also show you a green bar that tells you how much competition that keyword has. You want low competition keywords so that you don't have to pay a lot per click. Once you have your keywords you'll have to split test ads just like you do with Facebook ads to figure out which ad copy works best.
These are three proven ways to really boost your website's traffic. So start advertising on Craigslist, Facebook and Adwords and who knows, maybe you'll end up having one of the most visited websites online. Now you can let the traffic pour in!

Great information to implement on my site, thanks for sharing. Bookmarked for future use. Voted Up & Rated Useful~
This was a truly interesting read. Being new to hubbing, this is a very useful. I do need to explore Craiglist more since I don't visit it as much nowadays.
This is a fantastic information. Thank you.
Another good one, thanks Bendo13. Cheers!
Thanks for the great ideas!
Some great information. Once again, thanks for giving me some ideas.
I like the idea of Craigslist ... well almost any free advert site! (that lets you include an link) Free targeted traffic is always good. Cheers.
I hesitated to open this hub because I thought, 'What more can there be to say about getting traffic to hubs/web sites', but you have managed to flag up a few new ideas. I also like the free ad idea. When I have placed genuine items for sale I have noticed they perform well in the search engines. Must set time aside to tackle the whole thing in a professional manner. Many thanks for the push forward. (No luck with adwords and I do have a fb page, lestroischenes, if anyone wants to 'like' me)
You explained it quite well. I am still unsure how to get around each step. Google's Keyword Tool and facebook. I think I need my hand held! lol
Nice! Never really thought of craigslist to market
Nice hub. I never got the whole noise about Craigslist but I guess I should really give it a try :)
Very helpful article, thanks very much!
Excellent information being UK based we don't have Craigslist.
Thank you for sharing this.
I never knew that, because Craigslist was once USA exclusive, I ignored it!
Well I am what you would call a true daft IT person. I don't sell a product, I sell a consulting services ( in the mental health field) and that is very hard to do on those sites you recommend ( yes, in large part due to my inability to comprehend the procedures). It seems like my business is a different kettle of fish, if you know what I mean. I am struggling to get my hubs set up with an Amazon affiliate for a book I strongly endorse. *sigh* Any ideas for me ?
Thanks - Debbie
Thank you so much for this very easy to understand and useful hub. I have been trying to figure out the entire make money with hubs thing and honestly much of it was just over my head. Your hub was clear concise and to the point without being overloaded with a lot of the technical terms newbies like me don't understand.
lots of wonderful information. thank you for sharing. i believe that many of us know about these sites, but the details are always nice.
How to make your hub one of the most visited hubs: Write it in such a way that it gets a 100 hubscore! Congrats and great hub!
Will people click the ad for traveling? I guess we can try Craigslist first, it seems more suitable for us.
Nice hub, i am actually aware of crag list and free advertisement posting, in fact i have long list of such sites but i am with melbel that you should write a hub about how to bring traffic in your hub over which advert has no issue. thnaks :)
Thanks for the clear and thorough explanation, and your topics are good!
Great Hub. I do a lot of craigslist ads. I was actually able to start my business on craigslist. It's amazing the results you can get with a professionally designed ad.
Thanks again!
Facebook , very good !!!
This is a fantastic hub. I never thought about the Facebook Fan Page although I always post to it. There is nothing worse than slogging your heart out writing and getting no traffic so its all in vain, esp when you're starting out on the road to try and earn money via the Internet. I have picked up some good tips like Craigslist, Pleased to follow you and learn more. thank you Bendo.
A very informative Hub I will use to help drive more traffic my way too. What you do on Craig's List can be done on other free classified pages as well. I'm still trying to figure out the RSS system of driving traffic my way as well, but that's another hub. Have a great summer!
There seems to be a lot of very useful information here since I am struggling to develop a website. Useful, well-written and well presented - thanks.
I agree with most of what was said. Yes, facebook is wonderful plus it can target a very specific customer. Plus, all the major search engines, Google, Bing, Yahoo, plus the thousand of others, all scan facebook for content. Craigslist is a bit more tricky. You have to consider that there are a lot of scammers on craigslist. Plus, Google doesn't really scan listings anymore. I notice a huge decline. Hubs like this one are fantastic tool for marketing. Great article and lots to think about. I would like to say that the internet is not constant, changes daily, and so do the algorithms, "the way search engines search"
Great ideas. I never even thought about Craigslist at all.
great hub...thanks
Hello Bendo13, will try it out one more time. With anything on the web, if you don't spam, you should be good. I did like Craigslist when it first started, plus you can really make the ad yours with some pretty advance html. I still think posting on blogs is the best way to build. I will start a hub shortly that will hit blogs and how to find the right ones. Have to say this Hubpages is fantastic...I m hooked. Take Care and Thanks
Thanks you so much for the great sharing ! I found Adword is really useful.
I do not think that any of the abovementioned tips are really helpful. SEO is a very individual thing and everyone has own methods. However, thanx for posting it.
I'm sure you know that pay per click advertising such as this is not the only way to generate traffic to your site. In fact ppc as a traffic source is much less stable than an overall effective SEO campaign for improvement of your sites organic web rankings. I use traditional link building and onsite optimization for targeted niche searches and I've found that it is one of the most effective practices in order to get good search visibility. But these methods work as well.
That's exactly my position. A nice broad stroke to cover all your bases. I agree that SEO is very time consuming and not overnight...that's what makes it so effective i guess.
great hub ill try craiglist
xcellent idea of using CL. Will definetly give it a go.
Thanks for all the useful info.
Great Hub Bendo13 there is so much I don't know in getting set up to have more traffic thanks for the info!
This is a really informative hub. I'm still a real beginner to all of this, but will bookmark this so that I'll be able to use your advice later on.
Great advice! Voted up!
Bookmarked this hub!
Thank you!
Good idea! Never thought of that. Will try it.
good hub.
thanks for sharing.
Will follow you to see more.
Grat ideas especially craigs list any freee way of moving traffic is always appreciated. I will be following your hubs from now on
Bendo - I would really like to see examples of the types of ads you run on Craigslist. Or perhaps just the type of wording you would use on there. That sounds like an interesting idea to try out.
Very helpful.
thx
There is Nothing New To this hub and it all basic but still meaningful for the rookies ... i am not criticizing your hub just expressing my opinion so i hope u respect that ..
Great informative Hub. I learned some new things. Thanks.
Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about free advertising on Craigslist.
I just use traffic exchange sites. I have never tried craiglist or any of these type of sites. Thanks.
Thanks for this info. Never knew craiglist was working for people. I am sure that guy will appreciate your support and leads to his site. I will be checking it out for sure!
I enjoyed the article. I especially like when you said "These ads usually stay up for about a month, so you'll end up with a ton of links all over their site for different locations."
I imagine when you wrote this article at that time Craigslist ads would remain up for about a month. I've notice lately the ads are only up for 7 days.
Still a great way to drive traffic.
Flatstomach is correct, seven days, but you can run two or three ads slightly different. Staggering them. When they expire you can relist without having to type in everything. Craigslist has its purpose, just not sure it's the right kind of traffic. Depends on your product or service.
Excellent, thanks will go thru it now. The ads I ran were only good for seven days. Obviously doing something wrong.
Facebook ads and Adwords are definitely worth the investment for many niches. Never thought about using Craigslist - thanks for that tip.
Great hub. Very informative. Thank for the useful tips.
Great hub I see.
Free method is great ,Paid traffic is really very risky
This is definitely gonna help my site :9 Thanks
Great tips Bendo. Thanks for sharing some of your knowledge.
Grant.
great tips. thanks
Really useful information that I am going to put in place. Thank you so much.
These are some good tips so I`ll try to implement some of them. Others give me the impression that are no longer up-to-date....
Really great information,Also write hub on how to achieve and maintain hundred score on hub pages.and reasons for falling the score on hub pages.
Thanks
Thanks for your sharing. Its a very great idea.I like it.
An inspiring post with some great ideas. Thank you!
Great Hub and Comments to follow. Remember, what works on Craig's List, also works for other free classified accounts out there. Nearly every town and every city has their own classified ads offered for free. Craig's list maybe the most popular, but they're not all there is.

oh lovely information
a wonderful hub, I like it.
Being a fresher in the field of hub activity it is the best hub that I can expect to yield results for me. Thanks for such an informative hub.
Thanks for the great info! I'm gonna take a look on those sites, I think they can really help launch my site!
Thanks for the information I ill certainly try it
I am a 72 year old Grandmaster in the Martial arts and "World" recognized. I did seminars and sold my books but since my wife became handicapped I have to constantly care for her and have lost income
Social Security s VERY limited and we cannot exist on that alone so I tried Hub Pages to get a following.
It seems or all the 62 years in the art teaching THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS I have very few followers.
I will try Craigs list today
Thanks again and google my name to see what I mean
What do you think about the benefits of article writing and submission? Is that still an effective way of bringing in targeted traffic? It's so time consuming!
ano i did that myself for my first hub and im still going to have to wait a few more days before they even review it so i can get traffic
Great advice you know I'm on craigs list all the time and never even thought of that. 2 thumbs up on this hub!!!
Very informative hubpage indeed Brendo, thanks! :)
Craigslist. That is genius! I am going to have to rethink my website, now. Bookmarking, tweeting,FB-ing, Stumbling! This hub is priceless.
Hi Brendo13 Thanks for this insightful hub, vote up for you! looking forward to read more of the same.
Love the bit on Craigslist ... something I'm considering in the near future.
Are you saying that article marketing is outmoded and slowly wasting my time, and that I should just concentrate on the three methods you mentioned? I'm getting ready to ramp up my new site and time is precious! Thanks for your time.
Thanks, Bendo13, for the information. You came up with ideas I hadn't even thought of (or heard of). I rated it useful and voted up. I'll be looking to see what other tips you have.
I don't have a website at the moment, I like the different ideas, I have seen many people have success with youtube and most of the sites I've visited through links have been from videos I've liked.
I started to just glance, but noticed that you have really good insight.
Ok - So say I'm a rookie, I guess I don't understand what the point is, if you're just getting traffic to your site that is a free service - Can you explain that to me? I understand your methods of creating traffic definitely. Just what's the point if they're just sort of going to your page then leaving it for some, others going there to obtain free info, etc... How do you actually make money from that? Haha, thanks Ben
Adsense and revenue sharing from the website hosting your blog. The more people you bring to view their ads the more money they make...the more money you make. you also can get click through traffic money from Amazon.
Great information, direct, clear and to the point. Well organized.
Pretty straightforward tips, Ben. Voting this Up and Useful.
Great tips on website traffic generation. I liked the facebook method the most. I am sure this technique will bring thousands of visitor if properly implemented. Thanks for sharing such great tips. Keep it up Bendo
Bendo13 - You are a Genius! I experienced a large increase in traffic in a few hours by using your techniques. Thanks for the ideas.
Very nice hub.. thanks for your ideas!
I share all of my articles on Facebook and have used Craig's List, too. Social places are the hot spot for getting people's attention on a subject they are interested in. Voted up.
Really great work. You have bridged up the gap between the demand and supply. Must say thoroughly researched and beautifully knitted hub.
As usual, great hub. Bookmarked, voted up, useful. I am thinking I should write a free ebook before going on Craigslist. I write a blog for women about organizing, primarily. Craigslist would be perfect if I can offer them a book.
You give some good tips here. Every market is different but these are a good start!
Getting traffic is a difficult topic for every website. However, you made some good points to notice.
Thanks this is geat!
Interesting. The ads on Craiglist is definately something I haven't heard before.
This is great post. I'm new to hubpages and have been trying to come up with some ways to generate traffic. Thanks.
This is a great post. Its very informative and helps others with getting traffic to their site or blog. Thank you for sharing.
very informative.
I agree with the ads on Craigslist, and I would add Kijiji as well, since it has given me some great traffic to some other side projects I have done with some organizations. Basically, posting with any magazine, newspaper and other classifieds around the area of interest is a good idea.
I particularly liked the "test ads by two" tip. I really never thought f it before. Having read this, I now agree that it makes sense and could help a bunch.
Very useful!
Some good stuff here, Bendo - I've got a site in the works at the moment, and will definitely try some of your strategies out. Perhaps not Craigslist, at it might not be appropriate since I'm not really offering a service, but certainly Facebook or AdWords could be good options.
Great hub - voted up & useful.
Thanks much again!
Voted up and bookmarked.
Hi Bendo - I know you recommended placing an ad on craigslist but I heard this can be dangerous if you use google adsense. I've read about people gettin banned from adsense by using craigslist as a traffic source. According to the adsense terms of service your not allowed to promote your websites on these classified ads types of websites not meant for website promotion. Any experience with this?
I like the info your providing, but it really takes a great deal of efforts to get noticed on the web in general, Search engine optimization is definitely one major way to make the magic happen. What many people fail to realize is, budgeting and how you network with people makes all the difference for sure.
You must establish relationships online via multiple social networking sites, because people tend to shy away from individuals who claim to have the internet location to go to, while the person has no clue who you are, or what your truly into. This takes hard work & dedication as well, it's surely not an easy task to make your web presence felt, no way at all.
The more sites your web profile & site location shows up, the more higher ranking the search engines will begin to push it up & don't forget your meta tags.
Craigslist might be genius. Great tip!
Great info here. Thanks for sharing..
Thank you
Great ideas. Ive used my facebook once or twice but never thought about CL. Thanks
Great insight, Bendo. Will use it right away when I get my AdSense confirmation. Voted up!
CL seems great idea. Previously, I have used it only to get back-link, never thought to scale it all locations for traffic. good idea. thanks
happy holidays.
Craig's list Idea is a good one.
Bendo13,
Can't wait to try some of these ideas. Love the hub!
Voted up and useful!
Blessings,
~Lisa
Happy New year!
Thanks for the detailed reply. Much appreciated. I will work on your advice.
Thanks
Happy New Year
Hey Bendo, sorry I'm late to the Hub. As always, good stuff. Would you please explain what you mean here.."You can then post 3 ads in your particular section a day, but if you only have 3 ads then you can only really post every other day. And if I were you, I wouldn't stick to just one area; I'd cycle through each and every location from the top down with each new ad." It's a little tangled up for me.
Thanks:)
Awesome. Thanks for the clarification.

This was very informative. I will try Craigslist and Facebook. Another way to get back links is to set up blogs on free sites and link to your website.Thanks.Nina.
