How to Find the Most Popular Products so You can Sell Stuff Online in the BEST Markets
92If you want to sell stuff online then you need to know what the most popular products are so that you know people will buy what you have to offer.
I'm about to show you how you can use eBay, Amazon and a not so well known shopping site to find out what the most popular products are today.
By the end of this article you will be ready to sell stuff online and have people clearing out your inventory in no time!
eBay has Your Answer
When you want to know what the most popular products are today then it only makes sense to go to some of the most popular sites online, right? By going to these sites you can find out what people are buying at incredible rates so that you know what they are actively looking for and can sell stuff online in that market or sell someone else's product as an affiliate and bring in a ton of sales. And you don't want to look at just any sites either... you want to go to places where people are buying things! So that's why I'm going to first suggest you head on over to eBay; it's ranked number 23 right now out of all the sites in the world.
When you get to eBay, hold your mouse over "Sell" at the top right and a drop down menu will appear. You want to click "What's Hot"; this will take you to eBay Pulse. And when you're on this page you're going to see so much helpful information. You're going to see what people are searching for the most. And you can even see what items have a ton of people watching them.
When you know what people are searching for in a marketplace like eBay then you know that it's what they are looking to buy. It's like someone walking around with a shopping cart at a store... usually they don't just browse the store and never put anything in their cart; they came there for a reason! And right now it looks like people are really looking for electronic gadgets, which is a pretty common trend. Plus, when you know what auctions people are watching, you know that it must be a really hot item that people are thinking about bidding on. And guess what else... you can see how those people are marketing their items in order to get that much attention. Yep, go check out their sales copy!
Amazon has Your Answer Too
And you don't want to forget about Amazon either! This marketplace is actually outranking eBay as it's sitting at number 17 right now. So that means that a ton of people are coming here to buy all kinds of products, which also means it's a great place to sell stuff online. How do I know? Well, because I buy stuff there all the time and I'm not weird enough to be the only one that does it! They literally have almost everything for sale at Amazon. Yes, they do have kitchen sinks ;).
So go to Amazon and click "Shop All Departments" at the top left; it's a big orange button. This is going to show you a directory of all the different types of products they have to offer. So skim through the directory to get an idea as to what's there and decide on what areas you want to check out first. Then all you have to do is start clicking... I'll start with MP3 Players & Accessories.
OK, now on this page you'll want to scroll down just a little bit and then look all the way to the right. What do you see? That's right; a bestsellers list! These products are the most popular products in this department. Imagine that... iPods have their own bestsellers list ;). And you can do this for any department that really fits what you'd like to promote. Get an idea as to what's selling the best, how they market it through their copy and what features their product has.
Even Shopping.com has Your Answer
And yes, you can actually go to sites like Shopping.com to do some product research. Sure, it's only ranking in at number 990 right now, but that's still a lot of traffic coming in to this site. Plus, this site is made specifically for people looking to buy products. Why else do you think it's named Shopping.com?
People come here to read reviews and see what items are really the best products for the price. You get pictures, prices, reviews and it's not just showing you results from just one store. No, they give you links to a bunch of different stores that are selling the same products so that you can compare prices and really save a lot of money. Plus you can even see what stores are ranked the highest so that it's not a nightmare to buy a product from them.
What's all of this mean for you? Well, you know that people come here to research and then buy products so it's a valuable resource especially when you see what's on their front page. Right off to the right side you can see what products are really selling at the moment. It shows you the top 5 selling items in the best categories and you can check out each product for more information on how they're marketing it. And then on the left you can check out their directory and when you click through you'll be able to see the most popular products and searches on the right, near the bottom. So they're really hooking you up with a lot of good statistics!
These sites are proven to let you tap into the market and see what products are truly the most popular products online today. So check out eBay Pulse, Amazon's directory and search all over Shopping.com's site and maybe you'll find a stand out product that sells the best on all three of those sites! Now you can be sure to succeed when you sell stuff online because you know what people are hungry for!

Wow. More stuff for me to explore. Thanks.
Very informative! Thanks for the info
I was having great success with the amazon associate program till google changed their algo, and now my monthly checks are becoming smaller and smaller every month. I have to find new ways to build up tat residual income again!
Use both sites and did not know about either button. Live and learn I guess. Thanks for pointing them out
Very useful tips, Bendo. :) After we have picked products to market, the next question is where to source for these products.
Well I don't use amazon and ebay much.I rely mostly on shareasale and clickbank. But I like your hubs. Its a good market to look for.
This is really helpful, thanks so much.
Very good and helpful hub. I hadn't a clue about eBay... thanks!
Thanks for a good hub.
good hub with some interesting ideas, i'd never thought of looking at ebay or amazon to research markets..thanks!
Thanks for publishing this I hadn't thought about using eBay and Amazon like that. This was very helpful for me. I will have to take a look at your other hubs!
Good article, very useful information. Have you tried drop shipping in the past? I have a number of affiliate sites but wonder if the click through affects the conversion rate. Do you think drop shipping sites are more likely to convert than affiliate sites?
I am a seller on eBay, I do very well I might add, I love the article, but I disagree with the concept... I have tried for decades to sell online and never really became a success until this last attempt..
For me it was selling something I loved, not what was hot... Yes I can sell i-Pads today they are one of the hottest items on the net... BUT long term I will end up not being happy...
My sales copy is far from the best, but I have many repeat buyers because they know I deliver...
I did hours and hours of research on these sites, and I agree there is a wealth of information...
For me I found success only after I followed my heart, and not the money...
I have been selling for over two years on eBay, and dont see an end in sight...
I am glad I found this page as it has given me some ideas for my hubpage for today...
Love your writings I have found a few great ideas within your pages...

Great hub! I used to sell some on ebay but I just learned so much from you! Thanks.
Good hub! very interesting and informative.
I work for someone that all he does is sell books and toys on Amazon. I'm starting to learn alot about how to find what makes something worth selling and what makes it worth nothing. Thanks for this hub. It was very useful.
Thanks very much for the advice bendo13. I see where you are going, information products seem to make a lot of sense.I have never tried clickbank or any of the other "information product" sites but have read about people making a lot of money from them.
However, I have also read that the people who claim to be making money from these sites are really making money by creating products that try to teach people "how to become a millionaire with clickbank". How do you differentiate the real opportunities from the fake ones?Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.
Really great information! I will have to investigate on the sites you mentioned - I didn't realize you could get this information on them! Thanks for the hub!!!
AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!
Great article. I will definiately check them out.
What a great hub, I have just started selling a few items on ebay. I am looking to do it full time and generate a home business. I am starting slow, but enjoying every minute i spend on it. At the moment i am just selling xbox games and dvd's i dont use. This is giving me experience selling on ebay. I did consider drop shipping companies, but decided against it as i would have no control over shipping and handling the product.
Nice Hub! I didn't knew Ebay Pulse, because it's not available in the European ebay market! But it's a great tool and can help you see how the best sellers work!
Great tips here! I used to buy a lot from ebay, I don't shop online as much anymore though. I have a lot I could sell though, that's for sure!
a very sound and helpful advice!

Some good tips here Bendo. Researching does one no harm,in fact its a win win situation.Great hub.
There are many answers in many different areas. Thus we can state there is no one best product :)
Terrific post. I knew about Amazon, but never thought about Ebay or Shop.com. Thanks for the info, now I don't even need to figure out how to do it. You did a great job explaining it for me.
This hub is very informative and well written. I am going to use the techniques you suggested on ebay and amazon, maybe even the other site too! Thanks!
Bendo13,
Excellent Hub! Thank you! You have a fun style of writing which is enjoyable to read.
I try to research what is out there and have read a number of product reviews but the "hot" products don't necessarily have reviews. This was a very informative article.
Fantastic Hub!
Very interesting and informative hub. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, click bank is also a good one.
Great hub! Very nice ideas!
Great hub. I am feeling inspired to sell something!! I'll be checking out my stash!
Thsi is extremely useful information, spelled out step by step. I've bookmarked it as well as rating it Up and Awesome!
Bendo I wish I knew how to look for whats hot on ebay when I was trying to sale affliate products online. I could have saved alot of time, and energy trying to promote, and sale items that I thought was good, but wasnt saling. This is a very useful article. Have voted up, and bookmarked. Thank you!
Hey Bendo I did what you said on eBay, and I was surprised to see people selling coupons. Thanks again for this most vauable information.
Great info. It's always good to know what are people looking for to buy, in the case you want to sell your products. Thanks for the sharing.
Great article for those looking for ways to market their products. Cheers!
Great hub and good idea. I have earned lots of money by selling amzon products but I find low competition keywords and then made page for that and place my amzon links on that page. You are thinking that how to find low competition keywords?. Don't worry you can esaily find the low competition keywords by using google keyword tools
Best of luck for your sales.
I don't know which I find more useful, your hub or all the great comments both you and your readers made. Taken all together, this is a goldmine of information. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
I was just thinking about how to go about doing this and you answered my question! Thanks for the helpful advice!
Good tips. thanks
Great hub, so helpful, thanks for making it newbie friendly. Rated up and following!
This is some great information. I know that it's possible to make some real money online but haven't known quite how to go about doing it. Now, I do!
Good info in a good hub! Voted up.
Great information, thanks!
Thanks for the info. Very informative.
Hey Bendo13 this is an excellent and very informative Hubpage article! Voted you up.
BTW, here's another "hidden" tool that's good for researching niche markets on eBay: http://labs.ebay.com/nichefinder/
Thank you so much, this is amazing information. Internet marketing seems to be the key to earning passive income.
You're doing great, keep it up.
Great information, I am still a newbie here and trying to get all the info I can. Great hub, really appreciate it. Voted up and following you! Will check back often.
Thank you Bendo, I appreciate the help! :)
Great information, Bendo! I am bookmarking this one for further use.
Bendo, Was not familiar with shopping.com might check it out, however thank you for telling the HP community about the site!
Very good hub about how to find the most popular products for resale.
Appreciate the great advice...as a newbie I'm always looking for tips to move things along.
I didn't even know those were places were available right there on the websites where people are selling tons of stuff! Thanks for the information!
I had been considering this for a few weeks now, particularly in regard to Amazon' products. I find that I have some sort of resistance to hubbing about products like in reviews and such –as opposed to hubbing about travelling, food and cooking, art and photography, as well as exploiting my own photographs, which I am very proud of-, but I really need to start making money so….
This is a good read. While I knew most of what you had to say already, you brought up a few small, but not minor things I hadn't thought of.
Furthermore, this list of comments has a wealth of information and ideas as well, so props for provoking such a great conversation!
Very useful tips, this is a good read
I always wanted to sell stuff on ebay, but I never found enough motivation. Perhaps I will give it another thought... Good Hub.
Thank you for detailed instructions about how to find the statistics, especially on e-bay.
Awesome hub.
Thanks for this article! Very simple instructions!! Much appreciated.
I had a friend who sold on Amazon and then went back to Ebay because of the price Amazon charged him after he sold his item. It was something like 50 dollars he received for the item he sold, and he only got like 39 of it after the fees.
Interesting hub. I sold on Ebay off and on from 2000 until 2010. I became very disgruntled with changes they made in their feedback system and felt it was very unfair to sellers. I loved it when I was doing it. I thought I knew just about everything about Ebay, but learned a lot from the hub. Thank you for the info. It almost makes me want to open my old account up again.
"What's Hot" can be incredibly helpful even if you aren't selling a particular product. If you have a sales, discount, coupon, or special buy site you can find out what is hot and try to locate coupons, deals, etc to advertise.
Good coverage on the subject. I voted up. :)
Useful info for me to explore thanks for the great hub
Great hub, one problem. It is easy to see whats hot to sell, question is where to buy the product wholesale so you can compete in price.
Gee, Durgaprasa, that doesn't look like spam at all.
Hi just found this info, great thanks! You mention further up in comments about Kunaki for your own Dvd's ect. I am interested in this method but wouldn't know where to start, what do you produce, can you give me some example of what you have produced please?
many thanks
Really informative hub Bendo I too did not know about the whats hot button, however ebay.com.au has theirs under the 'buy' button. Thanks so much for sharing this. :)
Great Hub! I believe Google has your answer too. Try Google Trends or try the keyword tool in Google adwords. :)
Hi, great hub. the only problem i have found is with Ebay. I am in the UK, and we dont seem to have the whats hot tab! After searching through the help topics, Ebay signs you out and then Ebay Pulse leads you to the Ebay (USA) site. I'm not sure if i have done something wrong, but the tabs on the USA site are different to the UK site.
Cheers
Dadibobs
These are great ideas! I definitely have to start selling stuff, and now I know how.
Clever use of Ebay, I love how everything you do normally online can be turned into an earning source with some creative thinking.
Thanks for this :)
Good ideas I'm going to try! Thanks for the hub!
Thank you for those very handy tips. When I get time I definately will go and try out your method of finding a big selling product lists.
Great hub and comments. I actually read through it all. Very good information shared here for sourcing products via eBay, Amazon or Shopping.com Voted up and Useful.
The biggest problem, even though there are those 'most popular' items especially the hot sellers around times like Christmas, was trying to find where to purchase or get a hold of certain items at a cheaper price, unless of course it comes down to buying and reselling using these same tools...
great hub, thank you
this is a great resource and thank you for filling me in :)
very useful, but if you could describe how to find the hottest products by giving some relative pictures, I will like it better.
Thanks for your generous sharing Bendo 13, I have learned something here from you...voted this up!
EXCELLENT hub! I'm off to check now. Thanks!
Very useful hub especially for beginners like myself.
Thanks!
Great advice. I have used the ebay what's hot to help me to know what to sell on ebay a few times.
Thanks for the tips. I have been using Amazon's best seller feature, but I didn't know about Ebay Pulse.
Thanks I always wondered the best way to find the top products, great hub!
Very useful hub. Thanks for sharing.
Sweet suggestions, I will implement them into my ad campaign and get back to you hopefully with good results. Thanks for the direction.
I've found products to promote using Amazon, but I did not know about eBay pulse or how to use Shopping.com. Thanks for the tips. I'm still new to the internet marketing game and need all the help I can get.
This is really well laid out, not to mention informative. I used to use Ebay a lot in the past selling shirts, now I work with Clickbank because digital products are just easier.
Great hub and very useful. Since I do alot of Ebaying, good Hubs like yours come in very handy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Blessings,
~Lisa
Great tips! I'm going to start applying that to my e-bay ads right away.
Amazon also has a number of RSS feeds for their various lists (Top Rated, Best Sellers, Movers and Shakers, etc) that you can get ideas from or even import directly into your site. If you're using Wordpress checkout a plugin called Amazon Hotlists which will let you pull these feeds into your blog sidebar automatically and even set a browsenode to get niche-specific bestseller lists.
What an interesting article. I learned a lot. Thank you. I'll be reading a few more of your very extensive list of hubs.
