Advertise Your Site Slowly and You'll Rise to the Top
70When you advertise your site you need to build your links slowly or you'll drop in rank just as quickly as you rose!
Let me quickly show you why slow and steady truly does win the link building race and then I'll update you on my journey to the number one position on Google.
By the end of this article we all should be slowly rising to the top of the search engine results.
Advertise Your Site Slowly
I know, I know it's not something you want to hear... but you need to slow down! We all want fast results and sometimes we give up before anything has a chance to happen. But when it comes to link building you really can't rush into things. Sure, you might get a nice wave of traffic and may even show up on page one of Google if you got 1,000 links to your page in one day. But that wave will quickly crash.
And it's not just going to kill your traffic, or your rank in Google's search results... no, it's also going to kill your spirit! I know how it feels to see that you're on page one on one day and then you disappear and are lucky to even be on page 10. Why does this happen? Well, Google does sandbox new sites to make sure they are legit. But if you update your site regularly and keep working as if you are still on page one then they'll put you right back where you were before. But there's another reason why you disappear from page one.
It's because your link building strategy wasn't natural and Google only rewards sites that get natural results. Not results that you got from some link building software or bot that gives you thousands of links in a day. Naturally a beneficial site will get a few links here and there and gradually it will build up to getting tons of links every day. But this doesn't just drop off out of nowhere. If it does then Google has to look at your site as one that's not relevant anymore. So when you pop onto the scene with no links, get 1,000 in a day and then for months you don't get another link... I think Google knows what's up!
They don't like spammers; they want to have the best search engine available and they do. They have the best search engine because the sites that show up on the first page actually help people the most. So, if you think you are worthy of the first page then you need to slowly build your links so that it looks natural to Google. And as you do this other people will link to it and it'll snowball into something beautiful. A page one result that doesn't go away.
Google Ranking Experiment Update
Now it's time to update you on my slow journey to the first result on Google. For the newcomers, I have outlined an experiment on an article titled "My Journey to the Top Search Engine Ranking on Google" where I'm attempting to show what it takes to make it to that #1 spot. Every day or two I want to update you on where things are as well as give you tips like the one above, so let's get into it!
Today I got a couple more links to the article as per the suggestion from Barbara Kay. I went to Infopirate and folkd and quickly got a couple backlinks to the article. Infopirate is another site that shares their ad revenue with you; a pretty handy bonus! And I'm still waiting for She Told Me to accept me but I'm in no hurry ;).
After checking my ranking for my target keyword I'm sadly still not hitting the top 5 pages yet. I chose a keyword that didn't have a lot of competition but it'll still take some work to break into the scene. I could get discouraged and give up, but when you advertise your site long enough you soon realize that the results come only when you never give in.
Advanced Performance Details
Now the article did get about 31 impressions for my Google ads, but no clicks yet. Which really isn't that discouraging considering the limited amount of traffic coming in so far. Because in the past 24 hours the article only got 24 hits. A slight dip down from the past day but that's to be expected at first.
And you guys are still the leading traffic sources because the hits are mainly coming from Yahoo Mail and Hotmail inboxes and HubPages itself. Which is great in my mind because I wrote it for you all. Hopefully you'll share your tips on that article too. But since the article hasn't made it to the top pages of Google yet, it doesn't have any keywords bringing in traffic.
Slow results are proven to bring lasting results when you advertise your site and that's why I'm only getting a few links a day to my article. So don't rush into things, slowly build your links and your results will last a lot longer. Now your link building efforts won't go unrewarded!

This is really interesting. I’m new to hubbing though I have tried blogging before but had no idea how to go about promoting a site. My instinct has been to get on with writing and commenting on sites and pages that are relevant, and to slowly build up traffic, so it’s very encouraging to read what you’ve written here. Besides there’s so much to learn that it seems simpler to build up slowly and then I understand better what I’m doing.
Thanks for this post.
This is a great hub.
The information you present makes a lot of sense and something we all need to remember. When I was starting out like you stated I wanted fast results but I knew it would take time. One of the important aspects of being a writer is to have quality input and quality articles. This to will slowly get backlinks and popularity on google.
I also keep at it everyday in commenting on forums in various networking sites such as hubpages and I have several sites on which I post articles. The exposure
I am now getting is fantastic and I could not be more happy.
Thanks for sharing.
A good hub
Maybe I'm confused by the way you're explaining it but won't these links bottom out eventually too?
Thank you for this very encouraging hub. I signed up with SheTold Me but tehy have a funy way of not letting you put the letters of Google ref but only the numbers which doesn't register with Google.I wrote to them but got a very bad answer. Therefore, I thought I lose out on my article and backlinks. So I gave up with them.
This hub is such a comfort. I have always felt that I'm not adding backlinks often enough. My main strategies have been blog comments (always making sure that I add value to whatever I comment on) and writing short summaries for places like InfoPirate. I'm giving up on SheToldMe, by the way. I have dozens of articles bookmarked there, but traffic shows up as zero at both my AdSense and Analytics account. Lots of other places get low traffic because I don't have enough content there, so it seems better to build them up than someplace with plenty of content and no measurable results.
still am not clear with SEO shit!!! anyway nice hub
Interesting strategy here. Have to admit, though, I don't understand the whole ranking thing with Google and click throughs and etc.. Technophobic I guess. Good explanation of your process with backlinks.
Bendo13, good information. Thanks for the Hub.
Great reminder to add links slowly. This is so true. Your hub also reminded me to update my existing backlinks for the new subdomain URL. I just logged in to my SheToldMe account, which I have not used for a long time. I updated my backlink. But I also noticed that they changed their policy. You can't list links to Hubs anymore unless you pay a fee.
I also just noticed that my AdSense never worked in SheToldMe. Ia also see a few comments you have from others who indicate the same thing. They require only the numeric portion of the Adsense code, but they don't include the letters "PUB-" in front of it. So Google doesn't recognize it. Seems this was always the case. I wonder if anyone realized it?
I agree, like John Legend "Take it Slow." Thanks again for the advice on taking time to build links for my websites.
Glenn Stock said the same thing about SheToldMe. Yes, they are aware of it because I had a lengthy battle by email with them. So all that tells you one thing.
I've been hearing a lot about building backlinks but they've never mentioned anything about the pace at which you should do it. Thank you for sharing this with us. :)
This piece proved so useful and informative. I learnt that the key to success here is patience and hardwork. You re sensational. Bless you
This is incredibly helpful for those wanting to gain success from their hard work. I agree, don't rush thngs. Take it slowly and the rewards will be seen! Voted up.
Great hub resource for achieving digital lift off onto the search engines. I been developing social networks and websites for a while now, and it isn't easy at all to get known on the web, let alone onto a search engine.
Even with proven useful SEO it definitely takes time to expand your positional placement onto the search engines.
I use many differing methods of SEO that have worked for me really well, and I'm also aware of the fact that you need to establish a web of trust, mostly in link dropping into social networks, because if you start doing it in places where your mostly unknown it will be frowned upon, and you may be subject to removal from their systems entirely. Awesome hub Voted up.
Great advice Bendo, thanks for taking the time to reveal the truth about building links.
